On view until spring 2026, Fortuna and the Immortality Garden (Machine) by Kara Walker at SFMOMA marks the artist's most ambitious large-scale public project to date. This site-specific installation spans three display areas filled with mechanized sculptures, creating a dynamic and immersive experience. Central to the exhibit, 137 meters of Balboa used to upholster built-in seating surrounding the central display area and as a backdrop for an expansive wall display.
